Should I noindex thin tag/archive pages?

My site auto-generates a tag page for every tag and I've got hundreds of them, most with one or two posts. The audit flagged a bunch of thin/low-value pages. Is noindexing the tag archives the right call, or am I about to shoot myself in the foot?

Generally yes, noindex the thin ones — hundreds of one-post tag pages dilute your crawl budget and can drag perceived site quality. But be surgical, not blanket:

Noindex, follow the sparse tag archives (one or two posts). You keep the internal links flowing without asking Google to rank empty shells.
Keep indexable any tag page that genuinely functions as a useful hub (10+ solid posts, real search demand for that term).
Consider whether you even need that many tags. Consolidating 300 tags into 30 meaningful ones is often the better fix.

"Noindex, follow" is the nuance I was missing — I was about to nofollow them too and lose the internal linking. Consolidating tags as well. Thank you.
